Keuka Lake Waterfront Living

After years of traveling to Keuka Lake for summers and weekends at their 100+ year-old cottage, our clients decided to stay and make Keuka Lake their year-round home. Initially, they hoped to restore the cottage, but soon realized there were too many structural issues for this to be practical. Undaunted, they built a new home on the site, closely following the lines of the old.

Local design/builders Earl and Marla Makatura were enlisted to re-create the house plan to be similar to the former cottage, and Heather and Mat were called to bring the interiors to life.

Our clients had salvaged a few of the vintage doors along with a custom kitchen pantry cabinet they wished to incorporate into the kitchen, and a dining table they personally made. They wanted a timeless classic coastal style throughout the house.

Heather and Mat presented a 3D model of the house to show coffered ceilings with bead board to reflect the style of the former cottage, and kitchen and bath designs that showed proposed cabinetry, fireplace and window seat millwork, countertops, lighting design, hardwood floors and tile design. Numerous meetings were held throughout the construction process so our clients could view the 3D modeling images and proposed interior finishes while their house was coming to life.

Unique kitchen features include a custom barn door style pantry that used salvaged doors from the former property and built-in window seats. The living room features built-in cabinetry and mantle and coffered ceiling. The primary suite bathroom also includes a vintage glass door from the former cottage and classic tile finishes for a steam shower and custom vanity with a thick stone countertop. Timeless lighting and plumbing fixtures complete the look. With the design drawings Heather and Mat created, local woodworkers were commissioned to fabricate cabinetry and millwork that look as if the original cottage is reincarnated.
