Keuka Lake Mid Century Kitchen

This stunning lake view home is nestled in the vineyards overlooking Keuka Lake. While the house had a great history – designed in the 1960s by an architect from a famous winemaker family – it needed major renovations.

The kitchen space was the couple’s first priority but was most challenging – the original kitchen was small, without enough pantry and oven space to support the new homeowner’s baking talents. The 12-foot curved wood ceiling was dark and unlit, casting much of the kitchen into shadow. In order to increase the size of the kitchen, Heather recommended they take down a wall and expand into a previously underutilized breakfast area.

To illustrate the proposed renovation, Heather created a 3D model of the kitchen demonstrating the proposed kitchen and appliance layout and recommended lighting. The existing kitchen was a Tuscan style remodel done in the 2000s, but Heather recommended they go back to the simple lines of the mid-century style with flat panel walnut cabinets that would complement the modern architecture of the home. To bring the kitchen an updated lighting plan, Heather proposed custom cable lighting with dimmable LED heads and mid-century inspired pendants to provide brilliant lighting in the 12’ tall kitchen areas.

Working with a local custom cabinet shop, Heather designed large pantry cabinets to store baking supplies and incorporate the wish list items of 3 ovens, built-in freezer drawers, mixer lift at a dedicated baking counter area, corner cabinet swivel out trays, and a rounded counter seating area.

Heather assisted the homeowners with finish selections, including large format 24” X 24” porcelain tile and in-floor heat, diamond-shaped mosaic backsplash, deep charcoal granite sink, brushed nickel pull-out faucet, white quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, range hood, and walnut finish for the cabinets. Heather also helped manage the project by assisting with lighting and appliance orders, overseeing the builder, cabinetmaker, tile installer, countertop installation, and appliance delivery and installation.
