The Whiskey Cave
The Whiskey Cave is a recreation space with a purpose – a clubhouse that hosts a charity poker league benefitting military veterans.
The owner of this one-of-a-kind space had several goals in mind and asked Heather DeMoras Design Consultants to bring them all together in a single, unified space. While offering the poker league a place to play, the space also had to showcase the timber frame structure, provide room for a vintage WWII poster collection, and have durable (and cleanable) surfaces. In addition, there needed to be space for members to store their whiskey and fine cigars.
Heather designed the cabinets with a rugged finish and leathered granite counters. Custom cabinets house a humidor, whiskey glasses, a wine fridge, and shelving space for plenty of whiskey. The walls were painted a soft gray to provide a neutral background for colorful poster artwork. The floor is a durable stained and sealed concrete that complements the rugged aesthetic of the space.
Design also extended to the lighting and mechanical features, with copper ductwork, and a custom-designed lighting grid that allows light fixtures to be suspended at optimal height for lighting the artwork and the space, minimizing the impact on the timber frame, and still allowing it to be viewed from floor to peak.
